Petrol Tank Paradox
Somehow, my petrol tank is getting bigger. I've noticed this in the past six months or so. When I got the car, about three or four years ago, I could fill the tank with about ?35 worth of petrol, now somehow the tank has expanded so it now holds ?50 worth of petrol when full. I can't quite get my head around it...

have you noticed that while your petrol tank is getting bigger, your engine is also getting less fuel efficient?

No, I get the same miles per gallon (or kilometres per litre even) as I did before. :-)

Isn't it horrible? Absolutely absurd!
Here's hoping you don't drive a gas guzzler like I do :-)

I'm not sure about Ireland, but down here petrol has more than doubled in price... hmm? that can?t be it. I think your explanation is more probable. The tank is definitely getting bigger =p

Mine is pretty much the same which is wierd, although costs more, although I only use ?30 in two weeks in my deadly fuel efficient car, vroom vroom, also Matt I think that you were right about it not being a good idea to get a bigger engine, well I might go up by .2 but no more, I could really kill someone with my race car driving techniques!

Calista, I drive a tasty little European car with a 1.4 engine, that's like... hmmm... 85 cubic inches! We don't love the gas-guzzlers so much.
Yes Lorraine, it's certainly the only explanation I can come up with. And :-P to you too.
Babs, the idea of you driving a car with a big engine would scare me out of driving on the roads. Or walking near the roads. Or getting the bus. Or actually leaving the house at all.

I wish I drove a tasty little European car.
However, I married a musician, so that means we must haul all sorts of amps, guitars, etc often, most of which will not fit in a tasty little European car.
Someday.

I have had 2 Marshall Amps and 4 guitars in the back of my tasty little number on one occasion, with the back seats folded down. So you've no excuse!

I have a tasty little Japanese 1.6. The time we moved a double bed in it was good fun.

What?? I didn't. I have been in cars that have been in almost accidents and I havce never been behind the wheel of any of them, my driving style is rally rather than what they want you to drive like in your test you know?

Oh, I understand perfectly!
I just thought it was really cute the way you said it :-)

Oh, no! I try not to criticize people I've not met face to face :-)
Hope you feel better soon!

Do you have extremely cold conditions where you reside (compared to 3/4 years ago)? That could explain a few ml's worth... I'm just jealous of all you folks with a set of wheels. I used to have a tasty motor until the divorce. Pre-nups in future I think.

Nope, the mean temperature in the borough of Dun Laoghaire and Rathdown has stayed pretty much the same for the last 3 years...
You could go the pre-nup route, or just have two cars. I reckon the two cars route is easier.

Two cars is (was?) a great idea... and that's what we did. She got the tasty motor (as mentioned) and I got the little runabout. Unfortunately my ex decided to sell the tasty motor (after 4 masked youths broke into her neighbours looking for the keys - obviously got the wrong house) and I let her borrow my runabout. (This was after the divorce as we are still on good terms). She then, bless her, had a little accident in my runabout and drove into the back of a stationary lorry on the motorway. I don't have a car now and have given up on car ownership for the time being. :)

Bummer dude. Given your recent track record on owning a car though, I think you can do without one for a while, for the good of your mental health. :-)
