Any Question Answered
Taking a cue from Dan, I have investigated the AQA service, seeing as how it's now available in Ireland. You simply text a question (any question) to 57275, and you get the answer back a couple of minutes later, for a fee. Dan's had a lot of fun blogging questions and answers, so I thought I'd shamlessly plagarise join in on the fun, and have a go myself:
Me: "If you only have one leg, and you go into a shoe shop, do you have to pay for two shoes or can you just argue "but I only want one"?"
AQA: "There are no shops that specifically sell single shoes, but they could be ordered. Bear in mind that many amputees have artificial limbs and would want two shoes"
Well, that's that cleared up then. AQA: Any Question Answered.

Hmm...was interested to see if I got same answer for a similar question so I asked
"Where can I buy one shoe?"
Answer: "You would have to go to a bespoke shoemakers, as there is so little demand, no large-scale shoemakers (eg Clarks) would make singles"
I wonder what I would have to ask to get same answer.

Hooray! One more AQA nutter. Although why they don't make their number 27272 is beyond me.

Because short-number messaging services in Ireland have to begin with a 5. And I think in the UK they all begin with a 6, but I could be wrong.
Nikki: I'd imagine you'd have to ask the same question to get the same answer! :-)

And how much does this cost?
Posted by: Calista | August 16, 2006 4:00 PM
£1 in the UK (I think!) and ?2 in Ireland. So about $2.50-ish or so.
But they'll answer ANY QUESTION (hence the name)!!!

That could get expensive! :-)

I've made a rule with myself.
"Only ask a question when there's really, really nothing else to blog". Or if Dan hasn't done one that week.

If they can tell me what next Saturday's lotto numbers are then ?2 is a good investment.

I worked for them for about 5 minutes, these are the kind of questions I would have preferred, instead of ones I seemed to get about obscure second division footballers and cricket scores...

Seamus, I think they only answer questions about things that currently exist or have actually happened (in the past). I think you'd be better off spending your ?2 on a Lotto ticket, or ?3 with Lotto plus.
It could be you.

Then I think the advertising standards authority needs to know that some of the "Any Questions" are not being answered.
Advertising lies? I feel betrayed!

Seamus, YOU, my friend, are very, very silly.
(And also quite funny. Funny amusing, I mean, not 'funny')
You know, I haven't actually asked them what the numbers for Friday's LOTTO draw are, it might be interesting to see what they say.

AQA get the lottery question a LOT. I'm not saying it's not original or anything... :)
If you are not happy with your answer, you can always apply for a refund, AQA are upfront about this.

it's 1.65 ex VAT, ?2 inc VAT. and how do you get to work for these guys?

It's ?1.65 ex VAT, but how on earth can you write off the VAT on a text to AQA as a business expense?!
I'd imagine you get to work for them by watching their website until they post an "AQA is hiring!" notice on it. Or ask Nat, she worked for them once, I think.
