Anatomy Of A Blog

Via Greg Veen I came across Websites As Graphs.

LifeWithoutToastGraph

Above is a graph of Life Without Toast. Pretty crazy huh? I didn't know I had created such a behemoth ungodly mess of linkage, divs images and good ol' HTML. Give it a try for your site, watching the whole thing unfold in front of your eyes is quite mesmerising.

Also, have a look at some other images tagged with "websitesasgraphs" on Flickr, some of them are amazing.

I think that it is pretty, like a flower almost. Seriously!! :)

Yours is pretty! Mine is boring...all yellow and gray.

Has anyone found a key? As best I can tell the HTML is black, HEAD and its children are grey (but so are lots of other things), TABLE and similar are red and DIV is green. [If I'm right about HTML, it should be very easy to match everything else up to the tree in the DOM Explorer]
My blog is a huge mess of green, my forums are big masses of red (as much as I'd prefer otherwise), and my CMS is a bit of both...

Dude, when you're looking at your graph unfold, if you scroll down there's a key at the bottom. It's like this:

blue: for links (the A tag)
red: for tables (TABLE, TR and TD tags)
green: for the DIV tag
violet: for images (the IMG tag)
yellow: for forms (FORM, INPUT, TEXTAREA, SELECT and OPTION tags)
orange: for linebreaks and blockquotes (BR, P, and BLOCKQUOTE tags)
black: the HTML tag, the root node
gray: all other tags

Ah, I knew it would be somewhere, thanks :-)

This blog looks totally, utterly pants in Internet Explorer. So stop making excuses and download Firefox (or even Opera or Safari) right now (unless you already have).
