Being the slightly snobbish coffee aficionado that I am, I have a Gaggia espresso machine at home. Like almost all espresso machines, even the really, really expensive ones, it came with a shitty black plastic tamper, rather than something even slightly decent. If you know anything about coffee, you'll know that the quality of the espresso is dependent on several factors, like water pressure, evenness of grind, and perhaps most importantly, the tamping, ideally done with a tamp weighing approx 1/3 of a kilo, and made of stainless steel. So I got bored with drinking good, but not excellent coffee while at home, and I ordered an Espresso Tamper from the Gaggia UK website last night.
This is the confirmation page after placing the order:
Wouldn't it be great if you could send mails to people's phone numbers? Think of the spam though. Maybe not.

Yeah, £36! that was not the most expensive one by a long way. There's other ones you can get custom-made that cost upwards of €100!
But I'm not a twat, so I didn't buy one of those.

I want to be able to text to a car registration number.
"You twat - don't you know what the speed limit is"
"Don't pick that in public"
or
"You are cute"

As someone once said - it doesn't matter where you get your appetite, as long as you eat at home.

Hmm texting a car reg, that would be brilliance, I am going to put that to the government as a new proposal. I would like to be able to have a loud speaker on top of my car so I could shout at people. It would be bliss!

Oh, I oft fantasize about a flashing sign on the back of my car for tailgaters...
"Fuck you sunshine and the horse you rode in on..."
Or somesuch...
Txting reg plates would just lead to even huger amounts of road rage, I still can't resist flipping people off despite knowing that this will end badly one day...

I once flipped off a guy who first tried to cut me off and then beeped at me (the fucker!) when I managed to squeeze in.
He chased me for about a mile and a half, but I lost him in the side-streets due to my superior driving madskillz. Otherwise it could've ended badly, as you say.
Lesson: learn to be an awesome driver, and you can flip off whoever you want.

I had something similar happen to me as well Matt. But I rammed his car off the road, pulled him from it and hosed his carcass with an assault rifle.
Oh wait, that was playing GTA. Still it felt good
Note to self, games != reality

Someone once tried to blind me with their headlights because I wouldn't let them merge (I had already let one person in, they were supposed to merge behind me, thems the rules!!) So I kept driving and they eventually copped on and pulled in behind me. What they didn't realise was that my car is very very low down, so their full beams went right over the top of the car, heeheee!! I did feel bad for the person on front of me though. I don't do the flipping people off, I do try to race people in cars with MUCH bigger engines though, which is funny cause I think that they think I am being serious. I did overtake a 5 series beamer the other day, pah, says me in Le Mini, eat my dust!! (Only there was no dust because we were on the N2 but whatever!!).

Wow, that's an expensive tamper, I thought mine was dear at £24. Mind you, as with a lot of things a good heavy tamper does make it easier to get to that perfect espresso. Also it will literally last a lifetime. I have the Baby Gaggia espresso machine too, love it to bits, really helps me out, especially on a Monday like this.
Incidentally, another plug for shopping up North, there is a Gaggia shop in the Outlet centre in Antrim, they have great Gaggia stuff and they are most knowledgeable/helpful too - they gave me a free tin of coffee last week to check if my grinder is causing probs.
This all confirms my guess that you are a gent of outstanding taste and refinement Matt ;-)

The feckin' North gets everything! Do these companies not realise the market is like, 5 times as big in the Republic (Apple, I'm looking at you)?!
As for coffee grinders, I use a Zassenhaus hand-grinder myself, it produces the best grind of any coffee grinder IN THE WORLD. Seriously. Mine is about 20 years old (inherited from my dear departed Auntie Sheila) and works like it's brand new.
Oh, and Gaggia-brand coffee is pretty shitty, imho. I'm an Illy man myself.
